Birmingham hosts three exhibitions
23 Apr 2009
A number of
exhibition stands were set aside for information on traffic engineering at an event in Birmingham this week.
The NEC hosted three concurrent conferences based around traffic, road safety and highway maintenance, as well as parking and street design.
Display stands were set up for the three-day Traffex, Parkex and Street Design 2009, which ended today.
The first of the expositions was aimed at members of the international traffic management and transportation industry, and it was the 24th edition of the conference and featured more
exhibition stands than ever before.
Visitors were able to take in solutions from over 450 suppliers and also gained free entry to the other two exhibitions.
Organised by the British Parking Association, Parkex is Europe''s largest dedicated event for the parking industry, featuring display stands from leading suppliers in on and off-street parking, access control, management, software, enforcement, refurbishment, training, payment and more.
The third option at the conference was Street Design - an event focused on shaping the urban built environment.
As a new event, the
exhibition was being run by the same organisers as Traffex and Parkex.
It focused on core areas of outdoor street furniture, civil engineering, ground works and public lighting.
As well as the hundreds of
exhibition stands across the three events, a series of seminars took place over the three days.
With so much focus on traffic at the Birmingham venue, there may have been some discussion of the Alistair Darling''s new Budget, which was announced yesterday (April 22nd).
The chancellor added £0.02 on to the price of every litre of fuel - a change that will come into effect from September 1st 2009.
Furthermore, duty on petrol and diesel will increase by £0.01 per litre per year between 2010 and 2013.
While the change is unlikely to please drivers, the government predicts it will cut carbon dioxide emissions by around two million tonnes per year by 2014.
