07 Apr 2009
Bristol-Myers Squibb is set to continue its work with Otsuka on the drug Abilfy until April 2015, it has announced.
The current agreement for the development and commercialisation of the treatment was set to expire in November 2012.
With the new deal in place, Bristol-Myers Squibb president and chief operating officer Lamberto Andreotti said it is an example of the company''s desire to become a leading next-generation BioPharma company.
"Our collaboration to develop this medicine that helps people with serious mental disorders has resulted in it becoming one of the industry''s most successful products," Mr Andreotti commented.
He added the deal will help boost the business''s earnings base for 2013 and 2014.
As part of the agreement, Otsuka will also team up with Bristol-Myers Squibb in oncology, pooling their resources in to helping cancer patients.
Late last month, the latter announced Plavix Plus aspirin was more effective than just aspirin in preventing major vascular events in patients with arterial fibrillation who cannot take oral anticoagulants
