Firms to team up for Parkinson''s study
16 Apr 2009
Pharmaceutical research organisation Syntagon AB has announced it is to develop the lead compound for Phase I clinical trials into Parkinson''s disease, Huntington''s disease and Brain Fatigue.
Director of sales and marketing John Cameron explained the company is proud to be part of the study, which will be carried out by Arvid Carlsson Research AB.
The latter has a track record in Parkinson''s disease work, with its chief executive having scooped a Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2000 for discovering the disease is caused by a lack of dopamine in certain areas of the brain.
Mr Carlsson explained he has heard good things about Syntagon within the Swedish community.
"They are technically excellent, fast-responding and an ideal partner for a company of our size," he said.
Syntagon has twin operations in Sodertalje, Sweden, and Riga, Latvia, and specialises in synthetic preparation of small molecules.
The news comes as researchers in Hong Kong and the US announced they have discovered a possible inhibitor to the bird flu virus.
