Exhibition Stands News
Grand Designs Live hits London
30 Apr 2009
Exhibitions stands in London are packed full of ideas about refurbishment and home design at Grand Designs Live.
TV presenter and eco-pioneer Kevin McCloud has chosen the event to launch a nationwide campaign called the Grand Designs Great British Refurb.
The crusade hopes to urge Gordon Brown to help people to undertake energy-efficient green refurbishments in their homes.
Visitors to the exhibition will be asked to sign a petition recommending households are offered new ways to pay for green refurbishment - a move which would cut upfront costs and allow people to spread them over a longer period of time.
At the show, McCloud said: "This campaign is all about reducing the cost, devising new and intelligent ways of refurbishing homes, getting communities to empower themselves and employ architects, consultants, designers and generally roping up the general level of expertise, finance, tax incentives, rebates and technologies as well."
Fans of the presenter will be able to buy signed copies of his new book Grand Designs Handbook on the bookseller''s stand.
In the book he shares his love for home design and comments on the most memorable homes from the Channel 4 TV series.
Grand Designs Live London is sponsored by British Gas and is currently taking place at ExCeL London. The event will run until May 4th.
Other people lined up to speak at the event include celebrity gardener Diamuid Gavin, designer Wayne Hemingway and minister Ed Miliband.
