Steve Webber joins Almirall as discovery director
17 Apr 2009
Pharmaceutical firm Almirall has revealed former Rhone-Poulenc Rorer (RPR) and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) employee Steve Webber as its new discovery director.
It said the new recruit would greatly enhance its research and development team.
Dr Webber began his pharmaceutical career in 1992, working his way up to the position of vice-president of respiratory and rheumatologic diseases at RPR.
He later became vice-president of respirator biology at GSK''s respiratory and inflammation centre of excellence for drug discovery.
Almirall said the appointment demonstrated its intention to progress in the field.
"Dr Webber brings to the position extensive experience within the pharmaceutical industry - particularly in respiratory disease," it added.
He will report to the company''s executive director of research and development Dr Per Olof Andersson, who works out of Barcelona.
In February, Almirall announced it had achieved a 3.8 per cent year-on-year increase in net income during 2008.
