AstraZeneca board member to retire in April

Hakan Mogren, non-executive deputy chairman of AstraZeneca, is due to retire from the company''s board of directors at the end of the firm''s annual general meeting on April 30th, it has been announced.
Commenting on the move, Louis Schweitzer, chairman of the pharmaceutical firm, said Mr Mogren has made an "excellent" contribution in his roles as deputy chairman and chief executive officer of Astra AB.
He added that Mr Mogren was "instrumental" in the formation of AstraZeneca and brought both sound judgement and a wealth of experience to decisions taken by the board.
Mr Schweitzer concluded: "His fellow directors and I thank him for his distinguished contribution to the company over two decades and wish him a long and very happy retirement."
AstraZeneca recently announced its full-year results for 2008, stating "good headway" is being made in terms of improving the firm''s efficiency and sustaining its long-term competitiveness in the pharmaceutical sector.
