Bayer to fund professorship
23 Feb 2009
Bayer will be the sponsor of the first chair for apparatus engineering at the Technical University of Dortmund, it has announced.
The company explains the professorship will be financed via a donation of 750,000 (£658,552) for the initial five years.
After this period has expired, the academic institution will be responsible for covering the costs.
Professor Ursula Gather said the professorship allows the university to offer teaching on the "entire spectrum" of biochemical engineering.
Dr Wolfgang Plischke, member of Bayer''s board for innovation, technology and the environment, added the funding helps the organisation to expand its alliances with academic and research institutions.
"Bayer''s new endowed professorship thus fits perfectly into the profile of the faculty, which is the biggest of its kind in Europe," Professor Gather added.
In recent days, Bayer MaterialScience announced it would have an exhibition stand at the Nanotech tradeshow in Tokyo, which finished on February 20th.
