DNA solutions helping police solve "broader range" of crimes

20 Feb 2009

Forensic DNA solutions from Applied Biosystems are helping law enforcement agencies to solve a wide range of illegal activities, including non-violent crimes such as theft and burglaries, the firm has announced.

The company notes recent advances it has made have resulted in the processing of DNA evidence becoming more streamlined and accelerated.

Such steps forward include the provision of computerised forensic expert software systems, which allow for more efficient reviews of complex samples.

Dr Leonard Klevan, division president of Applied Biosystems'' applied markets business, comments: "Streamlining forensic DNA testing is enabling law enforcement agencies to apply this powerful technology that was once reserved almost exclusively for violent crimes to a broader range of case work evidence."

He adds the technologies can be replicated across the world as the company seeks to make such systems accessible to a wide range of forces and laboratories.

Earlier this month, Applied Biosystems announced it was working with the Mayo Clinic in order to study the mechanisms of cancer development.ADNFCR-2086-ID-19037958-ADNFCR
