GlaxoSmithKline announces changes to its board

GlaxoSmithKline has announced a number of changes to its board, including a new appointment.
In a statement, it explained James Murdoch has been named as a non-executive director and will become both a member of the board and the firm''s Corporate Responsibility Committee from May 20th.
Meanwhile, Dr Ronaldo Schmitz and Sir Ian Prosser will both retire from the boards at the end of its annual general meeting on the same date.
Sir Christopher Gent, chairman of GlaxoSmithKline, said he is "delighted" with the appointment of Mr Murdoch, noting his previous success working for BSkyB and News Corporation.
"I would like to thank both Sir Ian and Ronaldo for their dedicated service to the boards of GlaxoSmithKline and the heritage companies. I have always valued their support and wish them well for the future," he added.
The company announced in recent days that Deirdre Connelly has joined the firm as president of North American pharmaceuticals and will take on her position as of February 9th.
