London Fashion Week to relocate to "new home"
23 Feb 2009
The annual London Fashion Week is to take place at Somerset House from now on.
According to an announcement by the British Fashion Council (BFC) on Friday (February 20th), a new partnership will see the most stylish
exhibition stands, collections and runway shows at the new venue from September.
Situated in the west of the capital and built after the original structure was demolished in 1775, Somerset House is an "historic location", said BFC chairman Harold Tillman.
Winter sees an ice rink constructed at the building, with 55 fountains on show in summer.
Mr Tillman added the BFC will utilise "the architecturally interesting spaces to make the venue our new home".
The event is scheduled to take place in early autumn, although across the pond, New York Fashion Week has just concluded this past weekend.
Designers showing their latest works included Calvin Klein and Matthew Williamson, with the shows taking place in Manhattan''s Bryant Park.
