New medication record charts guidance issued

26 Feb 2009

New guidance relating to the provision of printed medication administration record charts has been issued by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB).

The new plans were developed while adhering to the overarching code which promotes a culture of professional judgement and accountability.

It omits the previous guidelines which said the practice of labels should not be used with safeguards still in place to ensure appropriate professional standards and safety for patients.

Heidi Wright, head of practice at the RPSGB, said: "This is a further step towards a new style of guidance which encourages pharmacists to use their professional judgement by outlining principles to which services should adhere."

She added this replaced the notion of being prescriptive about what kind of activities should - or should not - be undertaken.

In recent days, the RPSGB announced the extension of its consultation on alteratins to the professional standards for pharmacists in authoritative positions until 12:00 on March 19th.ADNFCR-2086-ID-19048066-ADNFCR
