New medicine safety award launched
20 Feb 2009
A new medicine safety award has been launched by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB).
Coinciding with the release of a report on the safety of therapies, the honour - named Improving Medicines Safety - will be given once a year to individuals, organisations and groups.
Awards will be presented for documented improvement and benefits to patients.
Jeremy Holmes, RPSGB chief executive and registrar, said the prize will "highlight good practice and disseminate important innovations in medicine".
He added: "It is part of our determination to promote the skills of the pharmacy profession and we hope that it will become the benchmark for excellence in the field."
The award will be presented at the British Pharmaceutical Conference in September, following the closing date for entries on April 2nd.
Earlier this month, the RPSGB revealed the development of plans set out by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE).
Named NICE Clinical Guideline 76: Medicines Adherence, the paper recommends strategies healthcare professionals can use to ensure patients take their drugs correctly.
