Pharmacists'' roles "clearly defined" by new framework
17 Feb 2009
The roles of pharmacists are "clearly defined" by a new structure published by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB), it has been announced.
Steve Churton, president of the organisation, made his comments as Pharmacy Practice Framework Pharmacy Practice: Medicines was made public today.
The paper outlines the roles and functions pharmacists are responsible and accountable for, giving guidance on tasks they should be able to undertake.
Mr Churton said: "It is hugely important - especially in this time of momentous change for pharmacy - that the starting point for a pharmacist''s life in practice is clearly defined and the Practice Framework does just this."
Earlier this month, the RPSGB announced the development of guidance entitled National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence Clinical Guideline 76: Medicines Adherence.
The guidance is intended to provide pharmacists with information on how to help patients take their medication in an appropriate manner.
