New NEC system ''to enhance exhibition stand electrics'' - Clip Ltd
31 Jul 2009
Birmingham''s National Exhibition Centre (NEC) has announced that a new computer-aided system providing exhibitors with "faster, more efficient installation of their stand electrics" has been used to its full capacity for the first time.
Costing £5 million, the Plug and Play solution provides computer control across the full electrical installation of an event and makes power available immediately to
modular exhibition stands.
The new solution is the first of its kind at any venue in the UK and was installed in August 2008, but its full benefits and capabilities have only just been explored by the Sign & Digital UK 2009 conference.
Adjustments are available at "the touch of a button" and a pre-tested system was used to link
exhibition stands at Sign & Digital UK, something that may interest those seeking
exhibition stand contractors or designers or fabricators for future shows.
NEC managing director Kathryn James said: "The introduction of The NEC''s Plug and Play system and its full use can offer a considerable number of additional benefits for all of our customers."
She added that she hoped Plug and Play, organised by the Faversham House Group, would be seen as "the industry standard in the coming years" because of the opportunities it offers in terms of "speed, safety and cost saving".
The NEC was opened by the Queen in 1976 and is Europe''s busiest exhibition centre, with around 160 trade and consumer shows taking place each year and an estimated four million people visiting the venue''s 21 halls, which cover 200,000 sq m.
