Exhibition Stands News
Banksy versus Bristol Museum reviewed - Clip Ltd
16 Jun 2009
People who would not usually go along to look at artefacts on
exhibition stands in museums have been tempted by the latest project by enigmatic graffiti artists Banksy, it has been noted.
Writing for the Telegraph, industry commentator Serena Davies explained that the opening day of Banksy versus Bristol Museum saw the queue of people eager to attend snake down the street, with waiting times exceeding an hour in some cases.
She explained that the artist has "remixed" the museum''s existing collection by placing more than 100 of his own pieces among those already on display.
"People were inspecting the fossils to find the teeny-weeny woman pushing a pram hidden among them - they were on their hands and knees to look at the mouse with a back-pack who had clambered into a natural history case," Ms Davies noted.
Other pieces on show included a huge image of the House of Commons populated by apes, a burnt-out ice cream van and a lamb that has been muzzled.
She said that it is to be hoped that Banksy will move further in this direction, noting that the current exhibition succeeds "triumphantly" in its aim to be a museum show that is as "renegade" as a piece of illegal graffiti.
The exhibition is free to visit and runs until August 31st.
