Graduate Fashion Week puts new talent "in the spotlight" - Clip Ltd
11 Jun 2009
Graduate Fashion Week, which took place between June 7th and June 11th at Earls Court in London and featured
exhibition stands from a total of 50 universities, provides a platform for new and emerging talent, according to an expert.
Lorraine Candy, editor-in-chief of Elle Magazine, explained that the event is very different from other contests of its kind.
She noted that in other events, young designers are often quite established in the sector by the time they are seen and tend to request funding and mentorship.
However, with Graduate Fashion Week, the talent is "very new", raw and individual, Ms Candy asserted.
"Fashion is popular because it is creative and Britain is great at fostering creative talent. It is about making a statement and showing individuality and that is very attractive for students with a creative and artistic mind," she concluded.
Seats of learning that took part in the event included Manchester Metropolitan University, Liverpool John Moores University, Somerset College of the Arts and Thames Valley University.
