Power consumption "critical" in new mobile technology - Clip Ltd

11 Jun 2009

The power consumption of new mobile handsets is of "critical" importance, it has been asserted.

Kristof Beets, business development manager at Imagination Technologies, made his comments amid the exhibition stands and shell schemes at GaME09, an industry exhibition that took place in London at the start of June.

He said that the iPhone from Apple, with its graphical user interface that is always turned on, has revolutionised the mobile handset market.

"So, power consumption is a very critical component there," the industry analyst added.

Additionally, Mr Beets noted that navigation is also becoming more important to market participants.

"All these devices are converging and you don''t really know whether you have a media player or a mobile phone or a navigation device anymore and that''s a completely different set of requirements," he concluded.

GaME09 took place at University College London and speakers included Jeff Magee, head of the Department of Computing at the seat of learning, as well as Mark Baker, principal programmer at Disney/Black Rock Studio.
