Twiggy opens M&S exhibition - Clip Ltd
08 Jun 2009
Exhibition stands dedicated to the 125-year history of Marks & Spencer (M&S) have been officially unveiled by model Twiggy, it has been reported.
The model joined Sir Stuart Rose, the chairman of M&S, to open the exhibition, which is called Marks in Time and charts the store''s journey from a market stall to international retailer.
Based at the University of Leeds, the exhibition aims to show off the role that M&S has played in British culture since Michael Marks, the firm''s founder, opened a stall in the city''s Kirkgate Market in 1884.
The company''s archive is also due to be permanently relocated to the seat of learning.
Sir Stuart said: "The M&S archive offers a unique glimpse into our cultural heritage and we are very proud that our business began here in Leeds 125 years ago."
The firm recently launched a Penny Bazaar offer, which saw it sell a range of products for a penny each.
