30 Mar 2009
Switzerland-based pharmaceutical company Actelion has proposed the appointment of three new board members at its upcoming annual general meeting, which is set to take place on April 24th.
Andre Mueller, one of the five founding members of the firm has elected not to seek a new mandate due to his gradual transition into retirement.
In order to fill the vacancy, the board has proposed the candidacy of Dr Michael Jacobi, who served as chief financial officer of Ciba Speciality Chemicals until 2007.
Additionally, the panel has proposed to expand the board with the addition of two new positions.
Therefore, it has suggested Joseph Scodari and Dr Elias Zerhouni become part of the board.
Board chairman Rob Cawthorn said: "The addition of three board members - with significant experience in supervising and guiding the related value creation process - will allow the board of directors to provide the required strategic guidance to enable Actelion to fulfil its potential."
Earlier this month, the company announced Beat Steiner will assume the role of co-head of drug discovery, head of biology later this year.
