LG Arena reaches "milestone"
09 Mar 2009
The LG Arena''s new tower has officially been "topped out", marking a milestone in the redevelopment of the venue.
In recent days, the conference centre''s operators explained the feature is part of the new entrance to the facility, which used to be known as the NEC and has played host to
exhibition stands, conferences and trade shows.
The entrance is due to be finished by June and will include a range of features, such as bars, eateries, VIP areas and a party deck.
Phil Mead, director of arenas at the NEC Group, was present for the topping out ceremony and said it was "amazing" to see the first piece of work in what is certain to be an iconic part of the venue''s site.
"This is a major milestone in the project that will make the LG Arena a 21st century world-class visitor attraction providing audiences with nothing less than an outstanding experience," he added.
In recent weeks, the venue operators announced the Liberal Democrats will hold their spring conferences for 2010 and 2011 in Birmingham.
