11 Mar 2009
Phil Mead, director of arenas at the NEC Group has been elected to serve as chairman of the National Areas Association (NAA) for the next two years.
The decision was made at the NAA''s recent annual general meeting at Earls Court in London.
Mr Mead will take over from chief executive officer of TrentFM Arena Nottingham Geoff Huckstep, who has held the position for the last three years.
Commenting on his election, Mr Mead said: "The NAA has achieved great strides forward in many areas in recent years and I look forward to the opportunity to build on its initiatives in training, event research, health and safety and best practice in event management."
Mr Huckstep said he believes the NEC Group director will be an "outstanding" chairman as a result of his wide-ranging experience and knowledge of venue management.
Founded in 1991, the NAA was established as a forum for individuals who manage concert and event venues with a minimum seated indoor capacity of 5,000 individuals.
