P&G''s first female president to retire
10 Mar 2009
Susan E Arnold, the first woman to hold the position of company president at Procter & Gamble (P&G), will retire later this year, the firm has announced.
Ms Arnold, who has accrued some 29 years of service at the firm stepped down from her position yesterday, but will not leave until September.
At present, she is continuing to serve in a special capacity, reporting to the chief executive and chairman of the board A G Lafley.
The company notes it has long since been Ms Arnold''s intention to retire on her 55th birthday, which she observed on March 8th.
Commenting on the move, Mr Lafley said: "Susan has been an integral part of P&G''s leadership team over the past decade, most recently as president of global business units responsible for more than $80 billion (£57.7 billion) in sales and more than 300 brands worldwide."
In recent days, the firm announced the launch of GIVE Health, a campaign run under its Live, Learn and Thrive corporate cause.
