RPSGB: "Pharmacist" protects patients
06 Mar 2009
Restricting the title of "pharmacist" allows those operating in the sector to protect patients, it has been asserted.
The Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB) discussed the issue at a meeting held on Tuesday March 3rd.
At the conference, it agreed the designation should continue to be restricted to individuals who are qualified and registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
It states the GPhC should consider keeping a non-practising register as the broader definition of the work proposed in the draft order will encompass a larger number of individuals engaged in the profession, but not all will want to be in the practising list.
Steve Churton, chairman of the RPSGB, said: "The position agreed by council focuses on the issue of patient safety and the confidence that patients should have in the profession."
In recent days, the society announced its support for No Smoking Day, which takes place on Wednesday March 11th.
