RPSGB agrees response to Draft Pharmacy Order 2009
10 Mar 2009
For the first time in its history, the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB) has agreed a two-part response to the government''s consultation on the 2009 Draft Pharmacy Order.
The organisation explains it has responded from both a regulatory and professional leadership body perspective.
Wendy Harris, the director of regulation and deputy registrar at the society, said the General Pharmaceutical Council, which will be established by the order in 2010, will have a robust, fair and transparent framework.
She added it must be able to inspire the confidence of those individuals who are answerable to it.
"Pharmacists need both regulation and professional leadership to help them improve their practice and provide high-quality services to patients," Ms Harris concluded.
Earlier this month, the society called for the statutory regulation of pharmacy technicians, stating it has supported this proposition for many years and also made wide-ranging and substantial preparations for it.
