NEC "at the forefront of sustainability"
11 May 2009
The Birmingham NEC, a venue that plays host to a wide array of corporate events and often has modular exhibition stands set up in it, has enhanced its ecological credentials, it has been asserted.
Following a £330,000 investment, a new waste pre-treatment facility has been established on the site.
The new resource allows waste to be separated, processed and sent away to recycling plants, with new technology ensuring that as much of the material as possible is sent from the site.
Kathryn Jones, managing director of the NEC, said the facility will be of "enormous benefit" to the environment, as well as the site''s customers and visitors.
"We are committed to being a venue of choice and this centre will allow us to provide an even better service, whilst putting the NEC at the forefront of sustainability within the exhibition industry," she added.
In recent weeks, the venue announced a partnership with advertising agency drpgroup to offer "comprehensive" packages to conference organisers during the current economic downturn.
