Exhibitions can help companies to really focus in on what they want their market to notice - and at one upcoming forum, those heading towards their golden years are the target customer.
The Retirement Show is due to take place three times in 2010 - Manchester on March 19th-20th, London on July 16th-17th and Glasgow on November 12th-13th.
Companies getting their
exhibition stands ready for the dates could include Age Concern, Trust Housing, Strathmore Hotels, Rosa Red and Phoenix Holidays, all of which reserved a pitch for last year''s show north of the border.
And according to the organisers, the ''grey market'' is a potentially lucrative one. As well as being the fastest-growing section of the population, it includes more than 20 million people with a collective £175 million in disposable income.
The average age of a visitor to the Retirement Show in 2009 was 59 years old. Two-thirds had already stopped working and came because they were looking for information on how to make this part of their life even better.
"These people are your customers," the organisers said. "With such vast spending power, the over 50s outshop those under 50 by 20 per cent every day of the week. All this means that the visitors to the Retirement Show are a captive audience which is ready to spend."
People thinking of either exhibiting or attending the upcoming Manchester event still have just under a month to sort out tickets. Manchester Central is the location and there will be activities on offer, such as tai chi, makeovers, cookery demonstrations and yoga.
